MPH and Skrillex released "Mirage" on August 14, 2026, a UK garage track built around a sample of Red Rat's dancehall single "Shelly Ann." The North American leg of their joint tour opens tonight, October 2, at REALM in Portland, Oregon, under the billing "MPH: Portland, Forever."

Why it matters here

The sample is not window dressing. Coverage of the release called it a nod to UK garage's "longstanding conversation with Caribbean sound system culture," the same lineage this site tracks every week: a dancehall vocal cut in Jamaica almost thirty years ago, warped and rebuilt into a 142 BPM club record for a tour that plays festival mainstages across the US and Canada this fall.

The detail

"Shelly Ann" is the breakout single by Red Rat, the Jamaican deejay born Wallace Wilson, from his 1997 debut album "Oh, No... It's Red Rat" on Greensleeves Records. "Mirage" drops his vocal under driving drums and sputtering bass, then opens into bright, bouncing chords built for a bigger room than the one the original came from, but the dancehall skeleton still shows through.

"Mirage" came out on DisOrder and Capitol Records. MPH, the Canterbury, England producer born Myles Fairbairn, described the writing session as unplanned: "Skrillex would do some bits and pass the laptop to me. I'd do some bits and, pretty soon, we'd married our sounds together." Fans had been chasing the track for months before that under the nickname "Bunga," after a recording leaked from MPH's set at EDC Las Vegas in May.

MPH's tour opened in Europe on September 19 in Copenhagen. The North American run starts tonight in Portland and continues through Salt Lake City's Breakaway Music Festival (Oct. 3), Miami's III Points (Oct. 17), and EDC Orlando (Nov. 6), closing November 28 at Knockdown Center in New York.
